What PCB design services does Black Stick offer?
Black Stick provides comprehensive PCB design services ranging from single-layer cost-effective designs to complex 34+ layer boards with advanced features including blind and buried vias, buried capacitance and resistance, HDI (High-Density Interconnect) technology, and controlled impedance routing. We specialise in signal integrity optimisation for high-speed digital and RF applications.
Do you provide Altium Designer training and migration services?
Yes, we are Altium Designer specialists with experience since founding in 2005. We offer comprehensive migration services from legacy tools (PADS, OrCAD, Eagle, etc.) including schematic conversion, PCB layout migration, library conversion, and process documentation. Our "buddy engineer" program provides on-site support to help your team master Altium Designer quickly and efficiently.
What industries and sectors do you specialise in?
We have extensive experience across multiple high-reliability sectors including space and satellite systems (radiation-hardened designs), defence and military electronics (MOD security cleared engineers), RF and telecommunications, medical devices, industrial automation and control systems, automotive electronics, oil and gas instrumentation, and commercial products requiring high reliability.
Can you work on-site at our facility?
Absolutely. We offer flexible engagement models including on-site engineering support (short-term or long-term contracts), off-site remote design services, and hybrid arrangements tailored to your needs. Our engineers hold MOD security clearances for defence projects and can work within your secure facilities when required.
What is your typical project turnaround time?
There's no such thing as a typical project turnaround time. Just as there's no such thing as a typical project. However, we can give a very good idea of how many hours your design will take. Try our design calculator here.
Do you handle design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for test (DFT)?
Yes, we incorporate DFX (Fabrication, Test, and Assembly) principles throughout the design process. This includes manufacturing documentation (assembly drawings, fabrication notes, NC drill files, Gerber files), test point placement and accessibility, boundary scan (JTAG) implementation, design rule checking for your chosen fabricator, and liaison with PCB manufacturers and assembly houses to ensure manufacturability and cost optimisation.
